A Romantic Stroll Around Restormel Castle, Cornwall

10/4/2019

Ashlea & Andrew contacted me when they were planning a trip to Cornwall to visit Andrew's family. Although Andrew was born English he grew up in America where he met the wonderful Ashlea. They wanted Cornish beauty and also ruins so we headed off to Restormel Castle - a 13th century circular keep with panoramic views, it was definitely a WOW factor day!!! We spent our time exploring the keep, climbing the stairs, and adventuring in to the woodland beyond the castle...

November has been a a whirlwind month. A month of ups and downs. But above all a month of photographing 3 wonderful couples, in gorgeous settings and beautiful weather!

Firstly I met the wonderful Sam & Lizzy, a fireman and an air hostess from Reading who are getting married on Lizzy's parents farm in Portloe. When you see the photos you'll understand why!!! With rolling hills down to the coastal path and fields of inquisitive cows, it was stunning!

The lovely Andrew and Rachel are getting married in just 9 days!!!
And yes, I think it is safe to say I'm excited!
I met them on Rachel's Nan's Farm out in Winterborne Zelston, a stunning little village in North Dorset, and where they are having their rustic DIY wedding reception - which is insanely creative!
We headed north through the village to the beautiful setting that is Coll Wood, where the winding tree lined trails soon opened up into an intense sea of bluebells. We were even greeted by a deer running across the bells mid shoot!

The NEW and IMPROVED engagement shoot! After my training with Lynette Brown, I now look at every photoshoot in a completely different way. I want to create something for my clients, give them everything I have to give, to make them feel better about themselves and each other.
So to make this happen I wanted to practice!
Kayleigh and Josh were my guinea pigs one fine evening, with the River Stour glistening in the background, the sun falling through the trees and these two wonderful people - what more could I possibly want out of a photoshoot?!

I personalised their photoshoot to suit them. I asked them questions before hand to find out certain bits of information which I could use on the shoot. This helps to create a moment between them. I wanted nothing cheesy or staged. I wanted to capture them being themselves, with me in the distance (hoping they would forget I'm there).
I wanted to take them on a journey of fun and love. I wanted them to enjoy themselves but at the end of the hour feel closer to each other and maybe a little bit more in love than when we had started.

Moment Design Workshop

On Friday 20th May, I ventured up to Gravesend to visit the wonderful Lynette Brown. I contacted Lynette as I wanted to create photos not just take them. I wanted to get the most out of my clients, get them showing raw emotions, rather than just standing there looking pretty in a nice place.

Lynette works within the Moment Design | Beloved Collective way of shooting...
"Beloved is an emerging portrait based photographic genre that celebrates and emphasises the importance of relationship. Blending the visual aesthetic of portrait photography with the authenticity of photojournalism, the Beloved Technique gives photographers a simple way to create meaning-rich, fulfilling and valuable experiences and imagery for those they photograph and themselves."

Sounded pretty perfect to me!!!
After picking Lynettes brain and doing the 'classroom' side of things we headed to Darenth Country Park located on the edge of the North Downs. With its amazing orchards and rolling fields you would never believe you have just driven on a motorway. It was truly stunning.
Our models for the day were the lovely Sarah and Gary. With their wedding date set later on this year, what better way to celebrate than an engagement shoot!
